Grandpa Lost His Mind
A Journal - Crossing America by Bicycle

"Liberty, Sancho, my friend, is one of the most precious gifts that Heaven has bestowed on mankind" .. Don Quixote.

I am a 59 year old retired autoworker and have always enjoyed a quasi-active lifestyle. My cousin, Robbie, taught me to ride her bike when I was ten years old. I loved it! ... and I love cycling to this day. Twenty years ago, I read about the Race Across America, which is an annual event of bicyclists who race their bikes, day and night, across the United States and accomplish it in about a week. Those races inspired me to one day travel across America, from coast to coast, on my bicycle. At the end of April I will leave the Pacific Ocean and hope not to stop until I reach the Atlantic Ocean.
Like my father, I always believe in my dreams, no matter how absurd they seem to others, or how misunderstood I might be and I rarely question my own values or sanity! Sometimes that is what keeps me going. This will be a journal of my 4,100 mile trek.
